The Office of Child and Youth Protection will host a training in recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect. This is the safe environment training that is required for all clergy, employees and those in leadership positions with children and youth. Bishop Zarama will celebrate Mass at 6:30pm and install Father Joseph Yaeger as Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Kinston.
With the priests of the diocese, Father Michael Burbeck, VG, will celebrate Mass for all deceased bishops and priests. The Mass will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Newton Grove and will begin at 11 a.m.
The White Mass is the traditional name given for the Mass for medical professionals, drawn from the white coats that physicians still wear, and the white uniforms worn by nurses in times past. It is typically held around the Feast of St Luke. St. Luke was an educated Greek physician, author of the Gospel of St. Luke and a companion of the Apostle Paul who remained with him when he was imprisoned in Rome. He is a worthy patron of the medical profession.
