Cardinal Gibbons High School, in collaboration with the Diocese of Raleigh, is proud to announce the launch of a new Catholic high school in the Triangle area, which plans to open its doors to students in fall 2028.
The new school—distinct in name, Catholic identity, and charism from Cardinal Gibbons—marks a significant expansion of Catholic high school education in the region. This initiative aligns with the diocese’s long-term vision to broaden access to quality, faith-based secondary education.
“Cardinal Gibbons High School has grown and evolved with the Diocese of Raleigh,” Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama. said “I am pleased that the school leadership is being innovative and forward-thinking to provide a quality, Catholic high school education in more and different ways for many years to come.”
Currently, Cardinal Gibbons High School operates at full capacity, educating 1,600 students annually. The addition of a new high school responds to the increasing demand for Catholic education and offers more families the opportunity to experience academic excellence grounded in spiritual formation.
The school will be located at 801 Buck Jones Road in Cary, on the current Lower School campus of GRACE Christian School. GRACE is expanding and relocating to Apex and will lease the property from Gibbons during the construction of its new campus. With well-maintained facilities and minimal renovation needs, the site offers a cost-effective alternative to building a new school.
“We are excited to be a part of growing high school education in the Diocese of Raleigh,” said Jeff Bell, Head of School at Cardinal Gibbons. “We look forward to partnering with many in the coming months to create a new high school that will expand Catholic education in the Triangle.”
The high school will open with a freshman class in Fall 2028, adding one grade level each subsequent year until its first graduating class in 2032. Designed to serve approximately 400 students, the school will emphasize small class sizes and a personalized learning experience.
This new endeavor signifies a pivotal step in strengthening Catholic education in the Triangle, offering an affordable, high-quality, and faith-driven academic environment.
The Diocese of Raleigh and Cardinal Gibbons remain committed to making Catholic education more accessible and impactful for families across the region.
