The celebration of the Easter Vigil is the beginning of the season of Easter. While the Vigil marks the end of the paschal fast, the end of the celebration of Holy Week, and the end of repentance and conversion for which Lent prepared the community, it is much more a beginning. It is the beginning of a new season of grace and a time of joy and thanksgiving, for Easter is not one day or one solemnity—it is a fifty day celebration, and the fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday together comprise what the General Instruction terms "the great Sunday."
Bishop Zarama will lead the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3:00pm at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral. The service will include the Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion.

The season of Easter is the most important of all liturgical times, which Catholics celebrate as the Lord's resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church.
Bishop Zarama will celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at the following times:
12:30 p.m. – English Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, Raleigh
2:30 p.m. – Spanish Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, Raleigh
In the Lenten season, Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday. This Sunday observes Jesus’s triumphant and joyful entrance into Jerusalem, marked by jubilant crowds waving palm branches, which symbolize victory over sin, peace, and eternal life.
Bishop Zarama will celebrate Mass and bless palms at the following times:
8:30 a.m. – Spanish Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, Raleigh
10:30 a.m. - English Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, Raleigh
ALL ARE WELCOME! Join the AAMEN community and Keynote speaker Dr. Ansel Augustine for a Lenten event: "Black Catholics Our Journey from Crucifixion to Resurrection: A Lenten Journey. "
Dr. Ansel Augustine is the Director of the Office of Black Catholic Ministries for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He is also the New Orleans Area Director for Vagabond Missions, an outreach program to minister to the most at-risk youth in the community.
Dr. Augustine will also have a breakout session for the youth & youth ministers.
Bishop Zarama will celebrate Holy Thursday Mass at Saint Mildred Parish in Swansboro, marking the end of Lent and the beginning of the sacred "Triduum,” or three, of Holy Week.
Holy Thursday celebrates the institution of the Eucharist as the true body and blood of Jesus Christ and the institution of the sacrament of the priesthood. This Mass stresses the importance Jesus puts on the humility of service and the need for cleansing with water, a symbol of baptism.
