Submitting a letter of suitability to the Diocese of Raleigh
To seek approval to exercise ministry in the Diocese of Raleigh, please request that your letter of suitablity be mailed and/or emailed from your ordinary or superior (for clerics) or pastor (for laity only), to the Very Reverend Michael J. Burbeck, Vicar General at the following address:

Note:
- The testimonial of suitability must be specific for a named ministerial event with a corresponding date and place. For examples of the elements of a letter of suitability please see: https://www.usccb.org/resources/letters-suitability-examples
- Emailed letters of suitability are accepted with a signature and the official seal and must be issued within six months of the ministerial event.
- Please allow up to 3 weeks for typical ministerial approvals with at least two months for the celebration of marriage.
Requesting a letter of suitability from the Diocese of Raleigh
If you are planning to travel or exercise ministry in another diocese, please complete the form at the link below. A separate form must be filled out for each location that you are visiting (canon 903 CIC and canon 703 §1 CCEO). If you are requesting a letter to minister in another diocese, especially international locations, please allow a month for the other diocese to receive the letter and reply, granting approval prior to your planned visit.

Si usted tiene planeado viajar o ejercer el ministerio en alguna otra Diócesis, favor de completar esta forma. Se debe completar un formulario por separado para cada lugar que visite. Si usted requiere de una carta para ejercer el ministerio en alguna otra Diócesis, le pedimos nos dé, de ser posible, un mes de plazo, a fin de dar tiempo para que la otra Diócesis reciba la carta y responda otorgando el permiso antes de la visita que tiene usted planeada.
