Catholic Scouts and Scouters from across the Diocese of Raleigh came together Nov. 8 at St. Andrew Church in Apex to celebrate their annual Mass of Thanksgiving for Catholic Scouting.
Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama served as principal celebrant. He was joined by Father Scott McCue, pastor of St. Michael Church in Cary and diocesan Scout chaplain, and Father John Durbin, pastor of St. Andrew.
The annual liturgy brings together the Catholic Scouting community to give thanks for the blessings of Scouting in the diocese and to celebrate the integration of faith and service.
At the conclusion of the Mass, Bishop Luis blessed religious emblems earned by Scouts, which help young people grow in their Catholic faith. The emblems were then presented to the Scouts by Father McCue.
Looking ahead, the Catholic Committee on Scouting announced its next event: the Catholic Scout Camporee, scheduled for March 13–15 at Camp Bowers in White Oak, N.C. The camporee will feature fellowship, outdoor activities, and opportunities for faith formation.
