Bishop Zarama announces official appointments effective June 28

Most Reverend Luis Rafael Zarama, Bishop of Raleigh, is pleased to convey the following official appointments and announcements regarding priestly ministry in the Diocese of Raleigh.

Pastors

Very Reverend Carlos N. Arce, V.F., Pastor of Saint Anne Parish in Edenton and All Souls Mission in Columbia, Vicar Forane of the Albemarle Deanery, is appointed Pastor of Saint Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina.

Reverend M. Arturo Cabra, Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Kinston, is appointed Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Fayetteville.

Reverend Marco Antonio González-Hernández, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Parish in Farmville, is appointed to a second term as Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Parish in Farmville.

Reverend Gregory P. Lowchy, Pastor of Saint Patrick Parish in Fayetteville, is appointed to a second term as Pastor of Saint Patrick Parish in Fayetteville.

Reverend G. Fernando Meléndez, a priest of the Diocese of Chimbote, Peru, is appointed Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Whiteville and Our Lady of the Snows Mission in Elizabethtown.

Reverend Marlon A. Mendieta-Rodas, Administrator of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Roanoke Rapids, is appointed Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Roanoke Rapids.

Reverend Joseph J. Yaeger, Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Whiteville and Our Lady of the Snows Mission in Elizabethtown, is appointed Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Kinston.

Administrators

Reverend Jairo Alberto Maldonado-Pacheco, Parochial Vicar at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh, is appointed Administrator of Saint Anne Parish in Edenton and All Souls Mission in Columbia.

Reverend David L. Miller, Parochial Vicar of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Wake Forest, is appointed Administrator of Saint Mildred Parish in Swansboro.

Parochial Vicars

Reverend John Alex Gonzalez, Priest-in-Residence at Sacred Heart Parish in Pinehurst, with additional assistance in priestly ministry at San Juan Diego Mission in Robbins and other area parishes as needed, is appointed Parochial Vicar at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh.

Reverend Matthew Nwafor, Parochial Vicar at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, is appointed Parochial Vicar at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Wake Forest.

Chaplaincies

Reverend Juan José Hernández, L.C., a priest of the Legionaries of Christ, is appointed Catholic Campus Minister at Duke Catholic Student Center at Duke University in Durham.

At the invitation of Bishop Zarama, the Legionaries of Christ have accepted the responsibility to serve as full-time Chaplain at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh. Further information on the individual priest assigned Chaplain will be forthcoming.

Various

Reverend Fernando Torres, Pastor of Saint Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina, has been granted leave for a six-month sabbatical at the Institute of Continuing Theological Education at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy.

Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama expresses his sincere appreciation to the following priests for their generous priestly ministry:

Reverend John J. Granados, a priest of the Diocese of Caldas (Colombia), assigned Administrator of Saint Mary of the Angels Parish in Mount Olive, will be assigned by his Bishop to priestly pastoral ministry outside the Diocese of Raleigh.

Reverend John J. Kelly, OSFS, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Fayetteville, retires from active priestly with residence at Holy Infant Parish in Durham.

Reverend Monsignor Gerald L. Lewis, retired and assigned Diocesan Archivist, for completion of his additional assignment as Administrator of Saint Mildred Parish in Swansboro.

Reverend Michael T. Martin, O.F.M. Conv., Catholic Campus Minister at Duke Catholic Student Center at Duke University in Durham, for his many years of faithful priestly ministry in the Diocese of Raleigh. Father Martin, O.F.M. Conv., has been assigned by his Provincial Superior to pastoral ministry outside the Diocese of Raleigh.

Reverend Daniel D. Oschwald, Administrator of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Mission in Cary, for completion of his additional assignment at Priest Chaplain at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh.
