Bishop Luis Zarama celebrated Holy Thursday Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clinton, together with the community’s pastor, Father J. Joseph Dionne, C.Ss.R., V.F.

Holy Thursday marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum, commemorating the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. The Holy Thursday liturgy also commemorates the institution of the priesthood and the Eucharist.

During his homily, Bishop Luis reflected on the symbolic washing of the feet that also takes place during the Mass. He asked us to think about Jesus washing the feet of his disciples and how sometimes, like them, we feel uncomfortable or unworthy to be treated in that way.

“Allow yourself to serve and be served; to love and be loved,” said Bishop Luis.

When 12 parishioners were called forth to have their feet washed by Bishop Luis and Father Dionne, the children were invited to come forward and watch. Following the bilingual Mass, the community processed with the Blessed Sacrament to the church’s hall, where adoration continued.
