Native American Catholic Community (NAC)

Above: American Indian Heritage Celebration, Raleigh, NC, 2023

Kateri Tekakwitha impresses us by the action of grace in her life in spite of the absence of external help and by the courage of her vocation, so unusual in her culture. In her, faith and culture enrich each other! May her example help us to live where we are, loving Jesus without denying who we are. Saint Kateri, Protectress of Canada and the first native American saint, we entrust to you the renewal of the faith in the first nations and in all of North America! May God bless the first nations! - Pope Benedict XVI, Canonization of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, October 21, 2012

Mission Statement

Serving Native Catholics and American Indians across North Carolina, our mission is to celebrate Native identity and build relationships with all tribes, leading to vibrant fellowship and solidarity.

Our Ministry

We know that being Native and Catholic is a gift.

Our ministry fully affirms Native identity in celebration, cultural events, and liturgy. Native leadership and traditional wisdom are welcome in our Kateri Circle. Relationships between Indigenous Peoples and Catholics grow through community outreach and prayer.

Our community is diverse: we are inter-tribal and ecumenical. We welcome all people of goodwill to participate with us in prayer and action.

Diocese of Raleigh - Kateri Circle

The Raleigh Area Kateri Circle was chartered in 2004 for establishing a "home" for Native American Catholics and others interested in Native American Catholic spirituality. The circle is open to people from across the diocese. The circle meets regularly with the purpose of praying for one another and all people through the intercession of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, our patroness. We gather as well to share fellowship and traditions and pass these on to our children.

We also work for the greater needs of the Tekakwitha Conference, the only national organization whose sole purpose is to support the interests of Native American Catholics in the United States and Canada.

Interested persons may inquire about joining our meetings by contacting our staff at nac@aamendor.org.
