Position Summary:
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh is seeking a Preschool Music and Movement Teacher (for ages 2 to 5 years old) to join St. Michael Preschool in Cary, NC. The Music and Movement Teacher will support the Preschool Program in engaging the children in developmentally appropriate music and movement lessons in a safe, nurturing, faith-filled environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Engage classes for 25-minute increments in socialization and play-based learning that is developmentally age-appropriate and follows the Diocese of Raleigh Preschool Standards.
- leading students in performances throughout the school year.
- Work effectively with Teachers and Assistant Teachers and participate in ongoing collaboration and planning with the preschool director and colleagues.
- Establish positive and effective family relations through ongoing parent communication.
- Attending all required staff meetings, workshops, and school functions.
- Work with Morning Care assistants to execute classroom and playground safety standards, including supervising students during times of transition.
Other Duties and responsibilities:
- Communicate with teachers about the needs of students.
- Utilize and sanitize instruments
- Submit weekly lesson plans to director
- Utilize Brightwheel and Microsoft 365 products, including Outlook and Teams, for regular communication with staff and parents
Minimum Requirements:
- Musically inclined.
- A practicing Catholic preferred with thorough knowledge of the Catholic faith and ability to communicate it to wider audience in both words and actions.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background and reference check; must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of music or movement work experience, but all interested candidates should apply.
- Previous experience in a play-based early childhood center.
- Exhibits great love and patience for children.
- Effective written and spoken communication.
- Ability to play an instrument.
Working Conditions
- Inside work environment with some outdoor supervision
- Leading lessons to approximately 10-18 children per 25-minute sessions 1-2 times per week
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, up to 25 lbs.
- Regularly performs light work to lift, transport, and/or carry materials.
