Position Summary:
The Director of Faith Formation is a representative of the pastor. He/she implements the parish religious education program in accordance with the parish mission statement, goals and major catechetical documents of the church. He/she reports to the pastor and also to the parish council as required and is responsible for the total religious education program of the parish for adults, adolescents, and children as designated by the pastor.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate sacramental preparation for Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation.
- Coordinate parent faith formation that accompanies the above sacramental preparation.
- Coordinate Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children
- Coordinate opportunities for ongoing adult faith formation.
- Coordinate in developing small faith communities.
- Coordinate Children’s Liturgy of the Word at Sunday morning Masses.
- Coordinate Vacation Bible School
- Collaborate with the Pastoral Team
- Use media and technology for effective program implementation
- Maintain accurate records on students, families, catechists, and other participants
- Review, evaluate and develop programs with long and short range goals and objectives
- Prepare an annual budget proposal
- Faith Formation groups all ages: Adult Faith Formation, R.E.S.P.E.T.O., Family Faith Formation, Theology & Film, Bible Studies, Book Studies, Lent & Adent parish small groups or discussion gatherings, etc.
Minimum Requirements:
- Deep faith in Jesus Christ and a great love for His Holy Catholic Church
- Practicing Catholic with knowledge of and appreciation of Catholic Tradition, Scripture and Sacraments
- Proficient Bi-lingual Ability – English and Spanish
- Cultural Understanding including:
- Value and honor diversity and similarities among all peoples
- Understand and effectively respond to cultural differences
- Engage in cultural self-assessment
- Experience preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to honor, train and support volunteer ministers
- Post Vatican II understanding of the Church, including the Church’s rich social justice tradition and teaching
- Flexibility in working evenings and weekends.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in theology, religious education, and number of years’ experience
- Well developed knowledge of Scripture, the Catechism, and Church documents
