Hours per week: Part-Time 28 hrs. (7 hrs. per day, four days per week) Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri. from 8:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. (with the flexibility to work on a Wednesday when occasionally unable to work on another day) 

Position Summary:

St. Michael Catholic School is seeking an organized, self-motivated, caring person to serve as a substitute in our PreK-Grade 8 school. St. Michael provides a Christ-centered Catholic education, with a focus on academic excellence, and the development of the whole person, through our core values of reverence, service, and leadership.

Key responsibilities:

  • Available and flexible to substitute as needed, in any grade level (PreK - Gr. 8) and for any subject, when a teacher or ITA has an appointment or needs a substitute unexpectedly.
  • Implement classroom teacher’s lesson plans and integrate 21st Century skills that support school wide instructional programs and goals.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of personal accountability and high expectations for the students’ academic achievement, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Fulfill extra classroom and/or school-wide student supervisory duties, such as during lunch and recess.
  • When no substitute is necessary, or if it is only necessary for a partial day, the “Permanent Sub” will support the following staff members with short-term and long-term tasks: the school-office team, Administration, Director of Admissions, and/or the Director of After School Care. The Permanent Sub will also support Teachers without ITA’s, such as when primary students go to Specials classes (P.E., Music, Spanish, or Art) or during middle school science labs or writing workshops.   
  • Willingness to teach a Grade 7/8 Elective on either Monday or Friday that aligns with one’s interests, such as a Writing Club.
  • Integrate values and attitudes that support school wide core values of reverence, service, and leadership, including opportunities to support school’s culture of Catholic identity through mission experiences and faith formation.
  • Develop and maintain positive communication and relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Contribute to a positive Catholic school culture characterized by continuous professional growth and improvement, as well as collegial collaboration.

Minimum Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will hold an Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Elementary Education, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 or more years of relevant education/teaching experience
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training prior to start.
