BURLINGTON, N.C. – Blessed Sacrament Catholic School came alive with vibrant colors, traditional music and cultural pride as the school community gathered Oct. 10 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The morning festivities brought together students, faculty, families and special guests for a meaningful tribute to Hispanic and Latino culture.
During Mass, students and attendees participated in prayers and hymns offered in both English and Spanish, reflecting the rich linguistic diversity of the Catholic faith and the school community.
Principal Maria Iniquen-Gomez said, "Today's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at Blessed Sacrament School is a testament to supporting and loving our Hispanic community and acknowledging that we are all created in God's image."
Following the Mass, the celebration transitioned into a showcase of Hispanic cultural traditions. Folklorico dancers captivated the audience with their colorful, swirling skirts and precise footwork, performing traditional dances that have been passed down through generations across Latin America. Live music added to the festive atmosphere.
Students took center stage with thoughtfully prepared presentations highlighting the contributions of Hispanic and Latino saints and scientists. The young scholars shared stories of faith and achievement, educating their peers about important figures who have shaped both religious history and scientific advancement.
Among the attendees was Marcelo Eureste, superintendent of the Diocese of Raleigh’s Catholic Schools, whose presence underscored the importance of the celebration within the broader school community.
"Today's celebration is a beautiful reminder that our Catholic faith is truly universal," Eureste noted. "Seeing our students embrace and share their heritage while learning about the remarkable saints and scientists from Hispanic and Latino cultures enriches all of us and strengthens the fabric of our Catholic school community"
