Laudato Si’ Action Platform Initiative

The Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP) is a global Vatican initiative that provides a framework for Catholics and Catholic institutions to put the values and principles of the Laudato Si’ (on care of our common home) encyclical into action. Pope Francis declares, "How inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace" (LS 10). Recognizing these bonds, these relationships, drives our actions.

Bishop Luis Zarama has asked members of NC Catholics Caring for Our Common Home (N4CH), in their role as stewards of our Catholic faith and creation, to develop a draft plan for enrolling in this initiative.

Participation in LSAP will allow everyone in the Diocese of Raleigh to integrate the encyclical's seven goals into our broader community. The goals include:

  • Responding to the cry of the poor
  • Responding to the cry of the earth
  • Ecological education
  • Ecological spirituality
  • Adopting simple lifestyles
  • Community engagement and participatory action
  • Ecological economics

As a first step, N4CH aims to inform parish leadership, ministries, religious, school administration, teachers and parishioners of these goals. A second step is to inventory whether parishes and groups within the Diocese of Raleigh are already working toward these goals and to identify the best activities, actions, and/or resources that are being used to achieve them. N4CH has identified several parishes and their work but wants to include all within the diocese.

If your parish, school, ministry or group is involved in initiatives that serve these goals, could you please provide this information to N4CH? This is a great opportunity to highlight your many successes and to share them with the diocesan family of parishes.

LSAP offers the opportunity to further integrate Laudato Si’ goals into parish cultures and ministries. So, the plan is designed to provide new ideas and beneficial resources that promote environmental stewardship. The diocese hopes this plan will show our care for creation is a treasure from our Catholic tradition to hold and to cherish.

Please email your stewardship best activities, actions and/or resources by December 15, 2025, to Monica Kleimeyer at: mitzkleimeyer@nccommonhome.org.
