For one Diocese of Raleigh seminarian, the vocation journey began with a nudge from God that disrupted what he thought was his life plan. During college, Keegan Moloney felt the Lord “elbowing” him toward the priesthood, initially resisting the call but gradually discovering its beauty. Through discernment, he came to understand his own heart and the reality of priestly life, discovering that a priestly vocation seemed not only sensible but deeply desirable.
“It was almost obvious,” he reflects, describing how God’s guidance led him to seminary.
This summer, stationed at St. Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina since early June, Keegan immersed himself in parish life, gaining hands-on experience of the priesthood’s demands and joys. From assisting with liturgies to engaging with parishioners, his time at St. Bernadette has been a formative step toward his hoped-for ordination.
For Father Bill John Acosta Escobar, the experience of mentoring Keegan and other seminarians has been equally profound. Guiding a seminarian offers a chance to share wisdom and witness the next generation’s passion for ministry.
“It’s a privilege to help shape their vocation,” Father Bill John notes, reflecting on the joy of seeing faith and commitment grow in a young man discerning God’s call.
