Unrivaled: College Catholics gather for sporting event

RALEIGH – Catholic students and friends from N.C. State University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University gathered Nov. 16 at Lake Wheeler Park for an event they named the “Catholympcis.”

“It was a beautiful day with plenty of sports like spikeball, kickball, soccer and football,” shared Georgia Copenhaver, president of UNC’s Newman Catholic Community. “It was so cool to get to know other Catholic students and spend a whole afternoon together. I’m already so thankful for my Catholic community at UNC Newman, and this just made me even more grateful to be able to expand that community.”

The event also included lunch, which was provided by the Knights of Columbus Council affiliated with N.C. State University’s Catholic Campus Ministry, she said.

“It was so much fun to see so many young college students who share a common faith to get together,” she said. “There will definitely be more of this in the future!”
