Father Mark Betti is NC Knights of Columbus Priest of the Year

At the recent Knights of Columbus annual state convention, Father Mark J. Betti, pastor of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Shallotte, was named by the Knights as “Priest of the Year.” Father Mark is a 4th Degree Knight and currently serves with Knights of Columbus Council 9039 at his parish in Shallotte.

In nominating Father Mark, Bob Blanchette of Council 9039 explained, “He is a take-charge guy who immediately recognized our council’s ability to help him lead and support the parish and community.”

During his time at St. Brendan the Navigator, Father Mark and the Knights have helped a local support organization for human trafficking victims (STATUSA), prioritized support for the local Hispanic community in the parish and encouraged Hispanic participation in the Knights of Columbus. Father Mark has also partnered with the Knights in all of their Respect for Life efforts and their LAMB collections, which raise money for families and institutions supporting children with intellectual disabilities.

“There are many other instances where Father Mark displayed his leadership as a Knight and as a pastor,” Bob said. “We believe Father Mark’s leadership during the past year is deserving of the Priest of the Year award.”
