Cardinal Gibbons High School recently hosted their 2nd annual Vocations Panel in celebration of National Vocations Awareness Week. A number of ordained, consecrated and committed Catholics accepted the invitation to be on campus and speak with students during theology classes.
As Gary Meyerl, assistant head of school at Cardinal Gibbons, explained, "One of our goals at Gibbons is to help all of our students better understand how God is actively working in their lives. Increasing their vocational awareness – how they can use their gifts and talents in service of both Church and community – begins by introducing them to men and women who have answered the call and are living out their vocation on a daily basis."
Father Michael Schuetz, pastor of Mother of Mercy Church in Washington, N.C., and vocations promoter for the diocese, enjoyed the opportunity to interact with students.
"The panelists and I enjoyed our time with the students,” Father Schuetz said. “We were impressed by how engaged they were and all the wonderful questions that they asked. It was beautiful to see the Holy Spirit working in their lives. We look forward to seeing how they will respond to the Holy Spirit’s invitation in their lives."
The first day Vocations Panel included: Father John De Guzman, parochial vicar of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Cary; Lucy Honnor, Consecrated of Regnum Christi; Sister Lizbeth Hernandez, Hermanas Misioneras del Rosario de Fátima; Madre Lucia, Hermanas Misioneras del Rosario de Fátima; Brother Jacob Ringer, Legionaries of Christ, and Brother Omar Forero, Legionaries of Christ.
The second day Vocations Panel included: Father Michael Schuetz; Sister Mary Shea, The Daughters of Charity and Gibbons alum; Windi Mitchell, Outreach Coordinator at CGHS (Jesuit Volunteer Corps alum); Niki Bordelon, HS Religious Education, St. Mary Magdalene (FOCUS Missionary alum); Rob Lane and Drew Navarro, seminarians of the Diocese of Raleigh.
