The Saint Raphael Catholic School Chess Club made a powerful impression at the 2nd SRCS Chess Club Tournament, held Saturday, May 3 — and the results were nothing short of spectacular.
A total of 54 students from over seven schools competed in five challenging rounds, showcasing strategic thinking, composure under pressure, and great sportsmanship.
Representing SRCS were: Peter, Abbott, Liam, Wyatt F, Wyatt M, Basil, and Fletcher — and each of these dedicated “chessies” delivered inspiring performances!
Highlights of our team’s success include:
- Abbott took 2nd place in Section 2
- Wyatt M. earned 5th place in Section 3
- Wyatt F. secured 4th place in Section 4
- Nearly all SRCS players placed in the Top 10 within their sections!
In addition to these fantastic individual results, SRCS Chess Club proudly brought home the 2nd Place Team Award, demonstrating both depth and unity in competitive play. And St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Wake Forest took first place! This was an officially rated tournament with each player adding to their ELO ranking. Triangle Chess officiated the tournament doing a wonderful job.
I was exceedingly proud of every single one of our players. Their hard work, focus, and positive spirit were on full display — and it showed on the leaderboard.
