Rite of Election celebrated in the Diocese of Raleigh

On March 3, the first Sunday of Lent, the Rite of Election was celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral for catechumens in the Diocese of Raleigh. This is the second step for those in the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), acknowledging that they have been judged by those involved in the preparations to be worthy to receive the Easter sacraments at this year’s Easter celebrations in their parish.

Sponsors, godparents and Catechumenate parish team members attended with the candidates as the Church accepts the election of these candidates by God and recognizes their readiness for the sacraments of initiation. This step is also referred to as the enrollment of names because candidates also inscribe their names in the book that lists those who have been chosen for initiation.
