In recent years the Catholic community of N.C. State University in Raleigh held its celebrations of Mass in the student union and other locations. It was a race to unpack and prepare beforehand and a race to pack back up afterward.
Today there is a more permanent home, and things have slowed down a bit. The house was purchased in spring and blessed Sept. 3 by Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama. Friends and members of Catholic Campus Ministry gathered at the home, which is called the Doggett Center and located on Hillsborough Street, for an outdoor event that included Mass with the bishop and priests who serve the community, including Father Joshua West, L.C. and Father Daniel Rolczynski, L.C. The event also included dinner from CCM alums Teri and Jeremy Page.
For many students, it’s a place for Mass, meetings and ministry events, but it’s also a place to rest, exhale and relax during a time of life that involves a lot of work, growth and transitions. The inside of the home features worship space, a fellowship area, kitchen (there’s always coffee!), study areas and office space for staff.
Listen as Bishop Luis talks about what the space means to the community and view photos from the Sept. 3 blessing.
