Hurricane Matthew forced thousands of North Carolina residents to put their lives on hold to rebuild what had been lost. A year later, many families still struggle to find safe and stable housing. Sadly, we recently saw devastating storms also impact areas of Texas, Florida and the Caribbean. The Catholic Charities Disaster Services Program is assisting families recovering from these disasters.
Trained Catholic Charities staff continue to assist Hurricane Matthew survivors by helping families find and afford safe and stable housing solutions. The volunteer group NC Catholics Volunteer is working in the Tarboro area installing new drywall and insulation, laying new flooring and putting on a finishing coat of paint to make damaged houses a home again for families.
Some survivors of the recent Hurricanes in Texas, Florida and the Caribbean are evacuating to the Raleigh area. We are working with these families to identify a safe place to stay while they are in the area, help them return to repair their homes and orient families who wish to stay and build new lives.
A disaster is one of the most challenging things a family can experience. Catholic Charities works to limit the impact of disasters on families and help them recover.
