National collection bolsters Catholic ministry for military personnel

RALEIGH, NC – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) received a generous donation of $72,922.43 from the Diocese of Raleigh on June 25, 2025, as part of the triennial national collection to support Catholic military personnel, veterans, and their families. The contribution, facilitated by Most Reverend Luis R. Zarama, J.C.L., Bishop of Raleigh, underscores the diocese’s commitment to the spiritual care of Catholics serving in the U.S. military, attending military academies, or receiving treatment at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.

The AMS, which relies entirely on private donations, provides essential pastoral care to over 300,000 Catholics aged 18-29 on active duty. These funds are critical for sustaining the AMS Co-Sponsored Seminarian Program, which nurtures priestly vocations to serve both the Church and the military chaplaincy. The program plays a vital role in addressing the spiritual needs of service members and fostering future priests.

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, head of the AMS, expressed gratitude for the Diocese of Raleigh’s support, emphasizing the importance of the collection in enabling the Church to minister to those who serve the nation. He also extended thanks to the faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh for their generosity and called for continued prayers for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

The national collection highlights the collaborative effort between dioceses nationwide and the AMS to ensure Catholic service members, veterans, and their families receive the spiritual support they need while serving the country.
