It's not too late to 'Run for Life'

Supporters of the annual Run for Life have been without an in-person, mass race since the pandemic began. While many are looking forward to a group race in 2022, organizers Bob and Kathy Klein said there have been benefits to holding a virtual race for the past two years.

With a virtual race, runners complete a one mile or 5k race wherever and whenever (within the month of August) they choose. This feature, they said, promotes health and enables new racers to take part.

“Runners can run in or out of state … and will be able to post their results online,” said Kathy.

The deadline to register and get a race t-shirt has been extended until Aug. 29 for this year’s Run for Life.

Next year the Run for Life looks to return to “real” racing at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary where the race is traditionally run.

Run For Life was founded in 1994 to raise funds for non-profit, pro-life support agencies like BirthChoice, this year’s beneficiary of race proceeds.

The Kleins first got involved in the race in 2004 as volunteers. But their passion for the race and for the cause led them to become organizers of the race for the past 15 years. “It's a great family event, and we love seeing runners and sponsors raising money for a good cause,” said Kathy.
