Diocese hosts grant luncheon

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Diocese of Raleigh’s Office of Evangelization and Discipleship held its annual grant luncheon Oct. 8 at the Catholic Center.

The event included a welcome, opening prayer led by Father Chris Koehn, lunch, recognition of recipients and a closing prayer shared by Father Bill John Acosta.

In his remarks, Deacon Josh Klickman, diocesan coordinator for Human Life and Dignity, discussed the four pillars of prayer, education, pastoral care and public policy, which, he said, are supported through the grant money. “As you think of your work for the next year, please consider these four pillars,” he added, encouraging attendees to stay in touch and get to know the work of others as they conversed and had lunch together.

He reflected on human dignity and how it’s at the root of the work of all the organizations, which serve people in areas such as affordable housing, immigration, childcare and education.

Three types of grants were given; two of them were related to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, which is the domestic anti-poverty program of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The grants given Oct. 8 included:

The USCCB’s CCHD Grants, which are national and the money comes from the USCCB. The amount given varies, but the range, Deacon Josh said, is $30,000 – $75,000 from the USSCB to each group.

Respect Life Grants ($20,000 total), which come from the Bishop’s Annual Appeal in the Diocese of Raleigh

Diocesan CCHD Grants ($15,000 total), which is part of the annual CCHD collection in the diocese

Grants were given to a total of more than 20 organizations. They included:

  • Durham CAN
  • One Wake
  • Orange County Justice United
  • North Carolina Congress of Latino Organizations
  • Raleigh Area Land Trust
