The Catholic Church in the United States will mark National Migration Week, September 22–28, joining the global observance of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, October 4–5, during the Church’s jubilee year.
For more than four decades, the U.S. Church has highlighted its immigrant roots while honoring the resilience and contributions of migrants and refugees. This year’s theme, chosen by Pope Francis, is “Migrants, missionaries of hope.”
Pope Leo XIV echoed that message, saying: “In a world darkened by war and injustice, even when all seems lost, migrants and refugees stand as messengers of hope.”
Catholics nationwide are invited to participate through prayer, education, outreach, and advocacy. Resources and a 2025 National Migration Week toolkit are available at the Justice for Immigrants website.
