WILMINGTON, N.C. — Clergy, parish staff, catechists, ministry leaders, and volunteers from across southeastern North Carolina gathered Aug. 22 at St. Mark Catholic Church for the Cape Fear Deanery Day of Enrichment, a day dedicated to formation, reflection, and practical support for those engaged in parish leadership and ministry. The event brought together participants from parishes throughout the region and began with a liturgy led by Fr. John McGee, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Wilmington and dean of the Cape Fear Deanery.
Mass was followed by a series of workshops, ministry resource displays, and opportunities for fellowship, enabling participants to engage in discussions and activities aimed at strengthening faith and ministry leadership. Gina Drost, director of faith formation at Immaculate Conception Church in Wilmington, said it was encouraging to see representatives from different parish communities come together to learn from one another and support the ministries they serve. The gathering highlighted the importance of collaboration across parish boundaries as Catholics work to advance evangelization, catechesis, and pastoral ministry throughout the region.
Eight presenters offered sessions designed to support those serving in parish life and faith formation ministries. Workshop presenters offered a wide range of sessions focused on faith formation, catechesis, evangelization, prayer, Eucharistic spirituality, service, social justice, inclusion, youth ministry, and relational discipleship. Drawing on parish ministry, Catholic education, publishing, and diocesan leadership, presenters shared practical approaches to helping parish leaders, catechists, and volunteers deepen faith and strengthen ministry in their local communities.
The Cape Fear Deanery of the Diocese of Raleigh includes parishes serving the coastal southeastern portion of North Carolina.
