Bishop Zarama announces official appointments and announcements

Most Reverend Luis Rafael Zarama, Bishop of Raleigh, is pleased to convey the following official appointments and announcements regarding priestly ministry in the Diocese of Raleigh.  

Appointments Effective June 30, 2020

Pastors

Reverend Michael J. Burbeck, Pastor of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Ahoskie and Saint Anne Mission in Scotland Neck, is appointed Pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Cary.

Reverend Monsignor Jeffrey A. Ingham, V.F., Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Raleigh, Dean of the Raleigh Deanery, is appointed Pastor of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish in Raleigh and remains Dean of the Raleigh Deanery.

Reverend James J. Magee, Administrator of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Tarboro, is appointed Pastor of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish.

Reverend Robert P. Staley, Pastor of Saint Luke Parish in Raleigh, is appointed Pastor of Saint Matthew Parish in Durham.

Reverend Thomas S. Tully, Pastor of Saint Paul Parish in New Bern, is appointed to an additional six-year term as Pastor.

At the invitation of Bishop Zarama, the Legionnaires of Christ have accepted the responsibility to assume priestly pastoral ministry at Saint Joseph Parish in Raleigh.  The Order has recommended the Reverend Peter C. Devereux, L.C., a Priest of the Legionaries of Christ and Assistant Chaplain at North Carolina State University, Catholic Campus Ministry in Raleigh, to be appointed Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Raleigh.  Bishop Zarama has accepted this recommendation.

Administrators

Reverend Michael E. Coveyou, Parochial Vicar at Saint Bernadette Parish in Fuquay-Varina, is appointed Administrator of Saint Ann Parish in Fayetteville.

Reverend John A. Kane, Parochial Vicar at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, is appointed Administrator of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Southern Pines.

Reverend Christopher S. Koehn, Parochial Vicar at Saint Thomas More Parish in Chapel Hill, is appointed Administrator of Saint Mary Magdalene Parish in Apex.

Reverend Clyde Timberlake Meares, Administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Rocky Mount and Immaculate Conception Mission in Rocky Mount is appointed to an additional one-year term as Administrator.

Reverend Robert L. Schmid, Parochial Vicar at Saint Paul Parish in New Bern, is appointed Administrator of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Ahoskie and Saint Anne Mission in Scotland Neck.

Reverend Edisson De Jesus Urrego Restrepo, Parochial Vicar at Infant of Prague Parish in Jacksonville, is appointed Administrator of Saint Isidore Mission in Fayetteville, with residence at Good Shepherd Parish in Hope Mills.

Parochial Vicars

Reverend Juan Andrés González, a priest of the Congregación Del Oratorio De San Felipe Neri in Colombia, South America, is assigned to be in residence at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh.

Reverend Pedro Muñoz Muñoz, OFM Cap., Parochial Vicar at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, is appointed Parochial Vicar at Infant of Prague Parish in Jacksonville.

Reverend Paul M. Parkerson, Bishop’s Delegate for the Extraordinary Form, is additionally appointed as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and Immaculate Conception Mission in Rocky Mount.

Effective August 1, 2020

Reverend Hakseng Choi, a Priest of the Archdiocese of Daegu, is assigned to be in residence at Saint Andrew Kim Chapel in Fayetteville.

Effective September 1, 2020

Reverend Monsignor Michael G. Clay, Associate Professor, Associate Dean and Pastoral Studies Area Director of the School of Theology at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, is appointed Pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh.

Reverend James G. Sabak, OFM, Parochial Vicar at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh and part-time Diocesan Director of the Office of Divine Worship is appointed full-time Diocesan Director of the Office of Divine Worship, effective September 1, 2020.

Announcements

Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama expresses his sincere appreciation to each of the following priests for their faithful and generous priestly ministry in the Diocese of Raleigh:

Reverend Edward J. Burch, retired from active priestly ministry and Administrator of Saint Matthew Parish in Durham, returns to retirement. 

Reverend Philip G. Johnson, Parochial Vicar of Saint Ann Parish in Clayton, has been granted permission to be assigned to priestly pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Gaylord, as priest chaplain to the Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City, Michigan, effective June 30, 2020.  

Reverend Stephen E. Kluge, OFM, Parochial Vicar of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, has been assigned by his Provincial to priestly pastoral ministry outside the Diocese of Raleigh, effective September 1, 2020.

Reverend M. Andrew McNair, Pastor of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, has been granted permission to be assigned to priestly pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Phoenix, effective June 30, 2020.

Reverend Steven R. Patti, OFM, Pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish has been assigned by his Provincial to priestly pastoral ministry outside the Diocese of Raleigh, effective September 1, 2020.

Reverend Monsignor Douglas P. Reed, Pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Cary, retires from active priestly ministry, effective June 30, 2020.

Reverend Robert T. Schriber, Parochial Vicar at Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish in Apex, retires from active priestly ministry, effective June 30, 2020.

Very Reverend Stephen E. Shott, O.S.F.S., V.F., Pastor of Saint Ann Parish in Fayetteville and Dean of the Fayetteville Deanery, has been assigned by his Provincial to priestly pastoral ministry in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Reverend Donald F. Staib, Pastor of Saint Mary Magdalene Parish in Apex, retires from active priestly ministry, effective June 30, 2020.
