Bishop celebrates Mass with diocese's World Youth Day participants

On Saturday, April 1, Bishop Zarama celebrated Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton Grove for all those participating in World Youth Day this summer.

Later this year, youth groups from across the Diocese of Raleigh will join Catholics from around the world in in Lisbon, Portugal, for a celebration that brings young people together to share their experiences and deepen their Catholic faith.

The gathering in Newton Grove was meant to bless Youth Day pilgrims during a bilingual Mass prior to their travels this summer. The group also kicked off what promises be a time of fellowship and celebration in Lisbon, with a luncheon and fellowship following the Mass.

During World Youth Day, young Catholics participate in a variety of activities, including prayer and worship services, talks and workshops, cultural events and community service projects. There are also opportunities for participants to meet and socialize with other young Catholics from around the world, as well as with priests, bishops, and other religious leaders. Typically, the event is highlighted with a Mass celebrated by the pope, who typically attends the event and delivers a message to the young people in attendance.
