Basic Catechist Certification

Overview

A catechist with Basic Certification is a lay person who is recognized by the Diocese of Raleigh as having completed the requisite of educational formation to be a catechist.

Requirements

To obtain the Basic Certification, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Comply with current Safe Environment requirements and have evidence of completion certificate in hand. 
  2. Provide Certificates of Completion of formation in the following content areas: Methodology in Catechesis, The Creed, Catholic Scripture: Bible Basics, Liturgy, Sacraments, Morality, and Christian prayer.
  3. One letter of Recommendation from the DRE, Formation Leader or Principal recommending the applicant for having the background and experience to be awarded the Basic Catechist Certification. The letter can be addressed to the Certification Specialist, Aracely Alcala.

Apply  

Participants who have completed core courses through Catechetical Institute from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Dayton, STEP, Doorways, or Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, or a combination may apply for diocesan Basic Catechist Certification. Have an electronic copy (PDF, JPEG image or Word document) of all documentation listed above and complete the online application.

Record Keeping

The individual catechist/teacher should keep a record of his/her formation.
