Romero, the late Salvadoran archbishop who was shot by an assassin as he celebrated Mass in a hospital chapel in 1980, was canonized as a saint by Pope Francis in 2018. Several events and worship services are being held in the larger North Carolina community from March 20-26 to commemorate his prophetic ministry as a voice of the voiceless.
