In 2018 over 200 runners and walkers registered for this event which is held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Omar Wiggan took top honors in 17:05. Seventeen-year-old Lucille Ketterer won the women’s competition in 20:10. Ryan Kaat holds the course record for this event running 16:19 in 2011. Michelle Langan set the women’s standard of 17:39 in 2014.
The mile run begins at 8 am, and the 5K starts at 8:30 am. Bishop Luis Zarama will be present to bless the runners.

Once again the Run for Life 5K will be part of the 2019 Second Empire Grand Prix. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series. Proceeds from the race will benefit BirthChoice, which has been providing free services to pregnant women in the Raleigh area since 1971 by offering pregnancy tests, limited Ultrasounds, and other services at no cost and with no obligations. They make sure their clients are cared for in a respectful and loving environment, and that they are empowered to make an informed decision.. The entry fees are $25 for the 5K and $20 for the mile. After July 30, both fees increase by $5. The entry fees include a t-shirt – guaranteed to all those registered by July 30. After that date it will be “as available.” Race day entry fees will be $35 and $30, respectively.
Registrants in the 5K and mile can register either as a competitive or recreational entry. Competitive entrants will receive an official time, obtain Grand Prix points, and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive an official time, but they will be able to see their finishing times on a digital clock at the finish line
In the 5K awards will be presented to the top three women overall, to the top three men overall and to the top finishers in each age groups. In the mile, the top three male and female finishers in each age group will receive awards. The age groups are as follows:
Mile (both sexes): 8-under, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14
5K (both sexes): 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over.
Race packets can be picked up and late entrants can register at Inside-Out Sports in Cary on Thursday, August 15, from 5-7 pm OR on race day at the WakeMed Soccer Park beginning at 7 am. All those stopping by Inside-Out Sports during the hours of packet pickup either to pick up their packets or to register will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Inside Out Sports. Their store is located at 2002 Grisdale Lane.
