Position Summary:
St. Thomas More Catholic Preschool is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Preschool to join its team! At St. Thomas More Catholic School, the early childhood classrooms offer an environment that encourages 3- and 4-year-old children to explore, question, and learn. The curriculum revolves around a child’s natural tendency to “learn through play,” allowing children to approach new concepts in a “hands-on” manner. Each child has the opportunity to follow his/her interests within the classroom community and be recognized as a special and unique child of God. It is important that each child feels respected, loved, and valued as the focus is on the development of the whole child in all areas: spiritual, fine motor, cognitive, physical, social, emotional, mathematical, and critical thinking.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide small group instruction to students using teacher lesson plans.
- Communicate daily with the classroom teacher about learning and behavioral observations, tasks, and schedule.
- Use technology and office equipment to carry out non-instructional duties.
- Carefully supervise students in and out of the classroom.
- Use of classroom management tools that respect each student and help them to grow in their coping skills.
- Perform school-wide duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Proven experience as an Instructional Assistant required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Compassionate attitude and strong understanding of child development.
- Nurturing teaching approach.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing background and reference checks.
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Experience with preschool-age children.
