Position Summary:
Saint Paul Catholic School, in New Bern, NC, is seeking a part-time, energetic, and dedicated Religion Teacher for our Lower School students in 1st-4th grades. The ideal candidate is an actively practicing Catholic who is passionate about the faith and sharing that passion with our students, so they, too, may develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. The teacher will be responsible for creating a positive and Christ-centered learning environment that aligns with the school's vision and mission, as well as the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective religion lessons in accordance with the Diocese of Raleigh curriculum standards.
- Integrate Gospel values and Catholic moral teachings into all aspects of the curriculum.
- Provide opportunities for students' spiritual growth and faith formation within the classroom.
- Support families in the pursuit of Baptism and First Holy Communion with the process steps, paperwork, and information on required meetings.
- Create a positive and respectful classroom environment that nurtures intellectual, spiritual, and personal development.
- Assume responsibility for the leadership and management of assigned classes.
- Foster positive relationships and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Utilize procedures and practices of the school culture to grow in SPCS Root Beliefs and Core Values.
- Become an active member of the SPCS Knight Family by attending meetings, activities, and social events that promote fellowship with students, families, colleagues, and the larger Parish community.
- Complete the Catechist Certification program as mandated by the Diocese of Raleigh.
Education/Experience: Experience teaching Catholic religious education curriculum in a Catholic school setting or at the elementary level in a church program is preferred; Basic Catechist Certification is preferred; NC Elementary Teaching licensure is preferred.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
