Position Summary:
St. Paul Catholic Church in New Bern is seeking a welcoming and organized part-time Bilingual Receptionist to join our team and serve as a vital connection point for our parish community. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for visitors and callers, providing exceptional service in both English and Spanish. Under guidance of the office manager, you will support daily administrative tasks to ensure smooth office operations. A key focus of this position is acting as a bilingual intermediary for our Faith Formation department, helping diverse Spanish-speaking families smoothly navigate registrations, program details, and community events. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills and a strong desire to support our parish families.
Key responsibilities:
- Front Desk Operations: Greet guests warmly, determine their needs, and direct them to the correct staff member or department in both languages.
- Communication Management: Answer calls, take accurate messages, and respond to basic inquiries in English and Spanish.
- Translation Support: Orally translate during meetings or assist with brief written translation of forms, basic notices, and parish announcements.
- Administrative Duties: Schedule Mass Intentions, sort mail, and handle light filing or data entry.
- Lobby Maintenance: Keep the reception area clean, organized, and welcoming for all visitors.
- Department Intermediary: Act as the primary bilingual liaison between Spanish-speaking families and the Faith Formation department to facilitate registrations, program inquiries, and event communication.
Minimum Requirements:
- Language Fluency: Professional, fluent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Minimum level Degree/Education: High school diploma or equivalent general education degree
- Required years of experience and/or areas of related work: 1-2 years
- Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background and reference check; must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal abilities, confidentiality, and polite phone demeanor.
