Position Summary:
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish of Cary is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician – Level 1, responsible for providing repairs on campus to help provide a safe and hospitable environment. The Maintenance Technician, in conjunction with the Maintenance Technician Level 1 and Maintenance Supervisor, assists with all aspects of the property’s maintenance including the physical grounds, preventative, corrective, and emergency. An integral part of the Operations Team, they are passionate about ensuring every parishioner and visitor to the campus receives the best possible experience and strives to keep the facilities as well-running and welcoming as possible.
Key responsibilities:
- Works in conjunction with Maintenance Technician Level 2 to perform minor repairs to building systems and equipment on campus grounds, including but not limited to minor general carpentry, electrical (e.g. replace outlets, light switches, light fixtures), HVAC (replace filters, troubleshoot thermostat issues), and plumbing (e.g. repair commercial and residential toilets, sinks).
- Works in conjunction with Maintenance Technician Level 2 to perform minor finish updates and repairs to parishioner facing areas, including but not limited to minor drywall patch and repair, painting, trim carpentry, and general assembly and installations (e.g. appliances, ceiling tiles, soap dispensers).
- Provides updates to Maintenance Supervisor to maintain accurate records of all maintenance repairs and ensures all actionable preventative maintenance corrections are completed.
- Plan work activities and establish work schedules and custodial staffing requirements. Schedule and assign the work of maintenance and grounds. Work with all departments
- to ensure maintenance of facility projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Actively review the submitted facilities tickets and perform maintenance tasks in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Monitor and maintain outdoor systems: sprinkler system, clear sidewalks and entrances of yard debris, sidewalk snow and ice preventative treatment, reset bricks as needed for level.
- Perform minor grounds maintenance as needed between regular landscape maintenance: minor pest treatments, minor bed and hedge clean-up, occasional weed whacking.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of all parish-owned custodial equipment, landscape equipment, as well as maintaining and inventorying parish-owned tools, ladders, and carts.
Other Duties and responsibilities

- Serves as contact for facility-related emergencies, which may require evening and weekend work.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum high school degree or equivalent is required.
- Two – four (2-4) years' experience in maintenance or subcontracting experience with knowledge and understanding of technical subjects.

- Bilingual in Spanish/English, written and spoken
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and heating maintenance to be able to perform minor repairs/replacement and/or to diagnose problems.
- Ability to work well with others in a cooperative team-based atmosphere.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable using basic technology such as Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to be on-call for emergency repairs or needs, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be within a 30-minute drive from campus.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background and reference check; must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training upon hire.
Physical requirements
- Ability to lift/move objects of 75 pounds consistently, with heavier weight necessary at times.
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Ability to spend significant portion of one’s day on their feet.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current license in plumbing, HVAC or electrical is a plus.
- Prior volunteer service within a Catholic Church setting, or similar non-profit entity that is mission driven.
