Position Summary:
This position is year-round and on-site in the parish office. As Finance Assistant, you will be integral to our finance team and will report directly to the Director of Finance. We expect you to demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Your core knowledge of accounting principles and premium skills in Cash Basis and GAAP will be essential in supporting our finance team and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Applicant must have the ability to analyze data, identify trends, develop sound policies and practices.
- Prepare schedules for accruals, deferrals, prepaid assets, unearned revenue, fixed assets, and similar.
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits to provide necessary documentation and explanations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proficient in developing standards, dealing with complexity, reporting research results, data entry skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in or willingness to learn new software and systems: ParishSOFT; and FACTS
- Proficient in currently acceptable accounting principles and practices
- Working knowledge of Church and School policies or willingness to learn
- Ability to communicate professionally with people on all levels (staff, vendors, parishioners, etc.)
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
- Quarterly Financial Reports including Sales Tax reimbursement.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or another related field.
- 3-5 years minimum experience in a professional financial setting, with knowledge of budgets, accounting, personal processes, and related laws and regulations.
- Understanding of the Catholic faith and commitment to St. Michael the Archangel’s mission of Worship, Education, and Service.
- Strong flexibility and openness to changing work environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
- Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.
