Position Summary:

St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington, NC is looking for a full-time faith-filled Youth Minister that can lead the hearts of youth in grades six to twelve to Christ. This individual should be innovative and intentional in reaching youth, parents, and young adults in a culturally diverse parish, united to Christ in teachings and Sacraments of the Catholic Church and have a heart to minister.

St. Mark Catholic Church is a growing parish of about 2,000 families.  The parish has over 500 students in Preschool to 8th grade school and over 200 students in sacramental preparation, youth ministry and faith formation programs. 

Ultimately, a successful Youth Minister will assist the St. Mark parish community by inviting, inspiring, forming, and leading youth to know and love Jesus Christ.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive youth ministry that includes formation, evangelization, and sacramental preparation by inviting, inspiring, and forming youth in the ways of the Catholic faith. This may include opportunities for youth to gather to network, pray and participate in retreats. 
  • Creating unity and building community by integrating students from the St. Mark Catholic Day School and Faith Formation programs.
  • Relating well to people of all ages by fostering engaging and meaningful interactions with students, parents, staff, and volunteers
  • Recruiting, training, and fostering teams of youth leaders, catechists, and parent volunteers. 
  • Preparing high school youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation using a two-year formation model.
  • Monitor the results of each program and provide feedback and recurring progress reports.
  • Collaborating with the Faith Formation team leaders, creating complementary faith formation for the parish community.
  • Attend required staff meetings, retreats and other meetings as required.
  • Contributing to annual programming plans and departmental budgets. Maintain program records.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, youth ministry or similar education
  • 2 or more years of experience in youth ministry 
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
