Position Summary:

The Diocese of Raleigh is seeking a Director of Religious Education to join St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Wake Forest, NC. The Director of Religious Education (DRE) provides leadership, in collaboration with the Pastor, in the design and implementation of programs for adults, youth, and children to assist in building a solid foundation for adult spirituality, Christian living, and ministry. The Director of Religious Education supports parents and families in their role as primary educators in the faith. He or she works to empower parishioners to respond more fully to their baptismal call.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with Pastor, School Principal, and pastoral staff to further the religious education mission of the parish and school.
  • Plan, implement, develop, and evaluate religious education programs for the parish and school.
  • Oversees the recruitment, formation, support, and evaluation of catechists and support staff with appropriate consultation.
  • Provides training for catechists so they assimilate the basic principles of pedagogy and human growth and development and can apply it to their target group. Provides opportunities to facilitate personal faith growth among catechists.
  • Directs the RCIA process and provides Confirmation preparation for Adult Catholics.
  • Responsible for the compliance of all areas of Safe Child for the parish and school. Maintains the records for all trained and background records for all.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required) or master’s degree (preferred) in Religious Education/Theology
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a DRE or a related Teaching position.
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.

  • An active and faithful Roman Catholic in good standing who possesses a comprehensive knowledge and proven passion of the Catholic faith.

  • Proficient in computer skills
  • Bilingual
