Position Summary: 

St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Clayton, NC is seeking a Youth Minister. The Youth Minister is responsible for developing a parish based pastoral ministry with youth. Reaches out to all youth in the community, invites and enables youth to serve others. Develops close communication with and mutual support from families of youth and collaborates with other parish youth organizations on a local and national level.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development

  • Creates and develops Core Group and provides for its enrichment.
  • Develops leadership skills in youth and young adults.
  • Develops a network for reaching out to youth, particularly to the alienated. Is available for and has set times for listening, counseling and referral.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements weekend retreats and youth evening gatherings for middle school, high school, and young adults. (Including travel arrangements, food and lodging, and any other detail in trip planning)
  • Develops the kind of relationship with parents that are conducive to open communication between parents and youth.
  • Works with catechists and adult volunteers to be able to have a deeper understanding of youth ministry and provides trainings to better equip leaders.
  • Coordinates and oversees the confirmation program (approx. 200 teens). Between May and August program evaluation, curriculum inventory, volunteer recruitment, registration management, and other logistical tasks must take place.
  • Coordinates fundraisers for certain youth trips/activities. (Food sales, religious article sales, service projects etc.)

Administration

  • Plans, organizes and implements programs/experiences which provide a holistic approach in meeting the needs/interests of youth and young adults.
  • Maintains necessary office and program records, including a log of activities and time.
  •  Determines effective means for publicizing and promoting programs, experiences. Promotes activities/events through Facebook posts, flyers, videos, social media, and parish bulletin.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to hear and respond to the Gospel message.
  • Assists in the preparation of para-liturgical and liturgical celebrations for youth. This consists of arranging clergy attendance, readings, and reaching out to mass servers.
  • Meets weekly with pastor to update on recent youth activities and upcoming events. Discusses the benefits and obstacles that may result as well as continues to develop the vision for youth ministry within the parish.
  •  Initiates procedures for evaluating all aspects of the parish's ministry to youth.
  • Sets budget for fiscal year and keeps up with expenses throughout the year for each category of expense.

Communication

  • Keeps the parish faith community informed of the youth ministry activities and goals. Advises, communicates and cooperates with other parish and diocesan organizations. Works with youth ministry team on goals and programmatic ideas for meeting needs.
  • Keeps informed through attendance at diocesan, regional and national conferences, regular reading, and membership in youth associations.
  • Is aware of community agencies and resources which interface with youth.
  • Sets annual goals and objectives for each middle, high school, young adult, and confirmation program as requested.
  • Maintains relationship with nearby schools to be aware of events in youth school life.
  • Responds to daily emails, phone calls, voicemails, and physical mail.
  • Attends monthly staff meeting to communicate youth activities.

Minimum Requirements:                                                                                                  

  • Bachelor's or Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred but not necessary.
  • Youth Ministry experience in a Catholic parish.
  • Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community.
  • Bilingual is a plus, especially in the culturally diverse parish as is St. Ann.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the required criminal background and reference checks.
  • Must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.
