Director of Children’s Programs (Primarily Director of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd)

Hours per week: 40

Position Summary: 

The Director of Children’s Program (Primarily as the Director of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd CGS) leads children faith formation in the parish and the school.  This person will recruit, train and mentor catechists according to the methodology of CGS, will maintain the CGS environment, will provide sacramental preparation and will work with OCIA children.

Key responsibilities:

• Recruit, train and mentor CGS catechists and volunteers for the parish and school.
• Mentor and train CGS catechists
• Provide Catechesis to Children (CGS, Sacramental Preparation, OCIA and Children’s Liturgy of the Word)
• Logistics and planning (scheduling events, curriculum, volunteers, communication with parents, etc.)

Minimum Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Deep understanding of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Montessori approach.
• Certification for all three levels of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or a willingness to pursue such
• At least two years of experience in ministry or education: recruitment of volunteers, ability to work with Catechists in a collaborative way
• At least five years of working in CGS
• Bi-lingual (preferably English and Spanish).
• Understanding of contemporary sacramental theology.
• Practicing Catholic.
• Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
• Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.

• Financial acuity to maintain the CGS budget

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate degree in theology or a related field (esp. a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies-Catechesis of the Good Shepherd from the Aquinas Institute of Theology)
