The Franciscan School is seeking a faith-filled and dedicated Assistant Principal who will support our Catholic identity, champion curriculum development, maintain a positive and orderly school climate, and serve as a key partner in guiding our growing school community.
The Franciscan School is a Catholic school serving grades K-8 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The duties of the Assistant Principal include but are not limited to:
- Acceptance of and commitment to the educational mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school at both the Diocesan and parish levels.
- Interact with students in a professional way that challenges them to reach their individual potential.
- Observance of all Diocesan and parish regulations pertaining to employment.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
- Assists in the general administration of the school, including development of the master schedule and faculty meetings.
- Supports the communication, training, and supervision of faculty and staff.
- Ensures adequate supervision of students and school-sponsored activities.
- Assists in planning for staff development, curriculum, educational materials, and student testing.
- Maintains documentation of instructional planning.
- Observes and evaluates instruction and provides constructive feedback.
- Carries out and enforces disciplinary and school policies, in consultation with the principal.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, other professionals, and community groups.
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Supports the principal and may serve in the principal's absence.
- Fosters a sense of collaboration with parents, students, faculty, and parish staff.
- Mentors and guides both experienced and new teachers in professional development and curriculum implementation.
- Proficient in school administrative software, Microsoft Office, and web-based communication tools.
- Adherence to health and safety procedures as set forth by the school.
- Maintain, or be eligible to obtain, an administrator's license from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Leadership
- Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum aligned with Catholic values and diocesan standards.
- Support teachers through instructional coaching, classroom observations, and professional development.
- Analyze student performance data to identify trends and drive continuous academic improvement.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate faith formation across all subject areas.
Student Discipline & School Culture
- Serve as the primary administrator for student discipline, ensuring fair, consistent, and restorative approaches aligned with the school's mission.
- Maintain and communicate the student handbook, behavioral expectations, and disciplinary procedures.
- Build positive relationships with students and families to proactively address behavioral concerns.
- Partner with counselors, teachers, and parents to support the social-emotional development of all students.
General Leadership
- Assist the Principal in daily school operations, including supervision of students and staff.
- Represent the school in the absence of the Principal.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of faculty and staff.
- Participate in school events, parent communication, and community engagement.
Minimum Requirements:
- Active, fully initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Commitment to collaborative ministry and Catholic education.
- Master's Degree in Educational Administration, Leadership, or a related field.
- Possess or be eligible for North Carolina administrator licensure.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience; Catholic school leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with curriculum design, instructional coaching, or academic program leadership.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with educational technology and data-informed decision-making.
- Successfully complete all required background checks and Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training prior to employment.
