Position Summary:

Share faith, serve the community, express the love of God and neighbor through worship and music. The Director of Music & Liturgy (DML) works in conjunction with the pastor to coordinate all liturgies and directs our growing music ministry of cantors, choirs, and instrumentalists. Parishioner participation is robust, and the DML fosters strong congregational singing through diverse musical styles, including traditional and contemporary Catholic music. Duties include selection of music for all regular liturgies, funerals, and weddings; coordination of all aspects of the liturgy including sound & live feed; coordination, recruitment, and supervision of liturgical and musical ministry volunteers including scheduling. This is a regular full-time 40-hour salary position. The exceptional candidate possesses strong keyboard skills (both organ & piano), choral direction, and liturgy experience. Salary is commensurate with experience. Key responsibilities: 

  • Coordinates the liturgical & musical vision of the parish in collaboration with the Pastor.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the liturgy including music, liturgical ministers, sound & live feed.
  • Leads and participates in the preparation, coordination, and execution of major/special liturgies.
  • Present at most weekend liturgies each week, including major liturgical rituals.
  • Proactively engages and recruits youth and young adults in all liturgical and musical roles for weekend liturgies.
  • Prepares and coordinates weekly liturgy including music and ministry volunteers.
  • Develops and implements liturgical formation programs and recruits, trains, and schedules liturgical ministers.
  • Develops & forms music ministers including cantors, choirs, & instrumentalists.
  • Attends staff meetings & liturgy/music meetings, directs choir, cantor, & instrumentalist rehearsals.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music with advanced coursework in liturgical or sacramental theology. 
  • 3 or more years of work experience related to: Leading adult, child, bell choir.  Liturgical minister recruitment and formation experience, Liturgy planning experience.
  • Ability to use digital scheduling system for volunteers.
  • Active, fully initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing who is dedicated to collaborative ministry and the advancement of the vision of the Church.
  • Vision and passion for Roman Catholic liturgy with a commitment to full, active, and conscious participation.
  • Possesses advanced singing, piano, and organ skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a wide variety of people and skill levels.
  • Proficient in verbal, written communication, computer technology, preferably with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and audiovisual equipment. Experience with Realm is a plus.
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training within 30 days of hire.

Supervises: Music & Liturgy leaders and volunteers.
