Msgr. Shugrue celebrates Easter Vigil Mass

Monsignor Michael Shugrue, diocesan administrator, celebrated Easter Vigil Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Holy Saturday. Father Justin Kerber, Cathedral Rector, concelebrated.

Hundreds of men and women were welcomed into the Church during the Easter Vigil in parishes throughout the Diocese of Raleigh. The “Elect” received the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Those termed “Candidates” entered into full communion in the Church, either having been baptized in other Christian traditions or who were baptized in the Catholic faith but never completed the sacraments of initiation.

To the elect and candidates, Msgr. Shugrue said, “Happily you have found in our community here at Sacred Heart Cathedral, welcome and love of the risen Lord. Happily, the community here has found that same risen Lord in you and you’ve been working together over the last year on your journey to the Catholic Church.” Msgr. Shugrue continued, “Together we will strive to live the promise of Easter that in the end life triumphs over death, good conquers evil and hope overcomes despair.”

On Easter Sunday, Monsignor Shugrue celebrates the 10:30 AM Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
