The faithful give nearly $85,000 to Black and Indian Mission Collection

In 2016, donors in the Diocese of Raleigh contributed $84,857.48 to the Black and Indian Mission Collection.

“This collection so clearly authenticates the call of Pope Francis … to work as a family to help all of our brothers and sisters and share the love, faith and hope of Jesus Christ,” Father Maurice Henry Sands, the collection’s director, wrote in a letter to the diocese. “We continue to be led by the missionary spirit of St. Katharine Drexel as we evangelize through our African American, Native American and Alaskan Native missions. Please know of my deep gratitude.”

Funds were raised via second collections at parishes throughout the diocese.
