Bishop Burbidge Speaks Out On Planned Parenthood! (VIDEO)

In light of recent videos regarding Planned Parenthood, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge has called the Catholic faithful of the Diocese of Raleigh to advocacy, witness and, most importantly, prayer. Please join him for a Rosary at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 27 via live stream at

Transcript of Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge's Video Statement Regarding Planned Parenthood:

In recent weeks and days, we have seen some of the horrific videos that remind us of the darkest elements of Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country and an organization that annually receives hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds and who is often supported at the state level as well. This simply cannot continue in our great nation.

In light of what we have seen, I implore the people of the Diocese of Raleigh, as always, to engage in advocacy, witness and prayer for the sacredness of human life.

With regard to advocacy, our elected leaders must know of our disdain for such blatant and unmerciful destruction of human life. Now is the time to act! I have written to our governor asking him for his leadership in ending this practice.

We must be witnesses of our faith and for the unborn. I am ever grateful to those who participate in our annual March for Life, pray in front of abortion clinics and find ways to share our message of life with others. Another powerful witness is the outreach of the Church in offering pregnant women alternatives to abortion and assisting in providing for their needs.

Most importantly, as Catholics we are called to prayer. We must pray for the unborn, that they would be protected. We must pray for the women who seek abortion, as we know so many of them regret terribly the decision they made to end the life of their child. We should also pray for those who commit abortions, that they would see the evil in their actions and work with us to end this scourge on society, that is abortion.

My call for all of you is to accompany me in prayer dedicated to ending Planned Parenthood and abortion in our nation. It will be held on Thursday, August 27. At exactly 12:00 noon, I will pray the Rosary with those who are able to tune to a live stream from the Catholic Center following our regularly scheduled live-streamed Mass. Many parishes will also pray the Rosary with their local communities. Whether or not you can tune in to the live stream or join your local parish in prayer, please pray a Rosary for the protection of all human life at noon on Thursday, August 27.

I leave you with this final thought, offered by Pope Francis in his latest encyclical, Laudato Si:

Those who are committed to defending human dignity can find in the Christian faith the deepest reasons for this commitment…. The Creator can say to each one of us: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you” (Jer 1:5). We were conceived in the heart of God, and for this reason “each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary.” (#65)
