On Saturday, February 4, a group of 11 volunteers from Cardinal Gibbons High School left before sunrise for Tarboro, NC, to help repair and rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Two years after the storm, over 100 families in the Tarboro area still have not returned home because of the damage. The group helped clear debris from one home that had been demolished then moved to another worksite, where they helped with the installation of drywall.
In recent days, we have seen the heartbreaking photographs and video reports of those who have been impacted so severely by the wind, rain, and flooding caused by Hurricane Florence. I ask that you pray for those who have lost their lives, those who have been injured, and for those who have lost homes and possessions. I also ask for prayers for the brave first responders who have been so helpful in the rescue and relief. This is a time for our Catholic community to come together and to assist our neighbors in North Carolina who are in most need.
