Job Responsibilities:

  • Newman has a number of long-standing existing parish-based small-faith groups, with others limited in scope and time; the Pastoral Associate will coordinate and expand these as needed, creatively and innovatively, in fulfillment of the parish’s strategic plan;
  • Works with the Associate Director of Campus Ministry in coordinating and fostering the existing student small-faith groups, organizing and expanding the program as needed;
  • Has primary responsibility for the RCIA program, working with an experienced volunteer team;
  • Newman has a number of regular service opportunities and structures for both parishioner and student communities, including alternative spring break service; the Pastoral Associate will coordinate and expand these program as needed, creatively and innovatively, in fulfillment of the parish’s strategic plan;
  • Liaise with area service partners, including but not limited to Catholic Charities of Durham; Justice United Orange County; and the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service;

All Pastoral Associates also serve in the following capacities:

  • Presence at one Sunday liturgy per week and other liturgical events as needed;
  • Presence at weekly staff meetings as needed;
  • Maintain a budget for assigned programs;
  • Provide pastoral care and be present to students, faculty, alumni and staff as needed;
  • Maintain pastoral presence and engagement to colleagues in a supportive atmosphere;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies or related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree in same +Certification accepted;
  • A practicing and dedicated Catholic with a commitment to personal discipleship and evangelization;
  • Experience with parish ministry, university campus ministry, or young adult ministry;
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
