Key responsibilities / day-to-day job functions

  • Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive youth ministry program for both JYM and TYM. These programs are to include appropriate goals for ministry with adolescents including catechesis/formation, individual and family advocacy, community life, evangelization, justice and service aspects, leadership development, pastoral care, and prayer and worship opportunities
  • Create and facilitate opportunities for spiritual growth and involvement in the parish community, as well as diocesan and national events for youth and young adults
  • Foster Christian leadership qualities among youth through an active youth leadership board
  • Recruit, train, supervise, motivate and evaluate all volunteers in respective ministries
  • Oversee parish participation in the annual Durham CROP Walk as a youth leadership board initiative in which youth plan, organize, implement and evaluate Holy Infant’s team and fundraising efforts
  • Support and implement an annual summer Vacation Bible Camp by fostering leadership amongst the youth including recruitment of crew leaders and participation in program
  • Implement, facilitate, and evaluate youth retreats  
  • Maintain regular communications with youth and their families and young adults, employing all applicable communications platforms
  • Implement a Sacrament preparation process for Confirmation, as well as collaborate with the pastor, parish staff, deanery and diocesan liaisons for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Work in collaboration with other parish staff in scheduling, planning and implementing activities, events and processes that overlaps into other areas of parish life
  • Engage in ongoing professional formation; keep informed of trends in youth and young adult ministry, theology and methodology of ministry
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Diocese, Deanery and wider community at large; assure integration and conformity with Diocesan programs and guidelines
  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary or assigned by the Pastor, Pastoral Associate or Director of Faith Development 
  • Maintain appropriate records including permission slips, medical records, registration, financial reconciliation and youth volunteer hours

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum level of Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum amount of Work Experience
    • Prior youth ministry experience highly desirable; training in youth and young adult ministry or willingness to acquire and continue training. 
    • Area of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in Full communion with the church.
  • High degree of comfort working with youth and awareness of appropriate boundaries.
