Position Summary:

The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More is seeking a Director of Music Ministry to join the parish. The Director of Music Ministry (DMM) must have a comprehensive knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Faith, demonstrate a passion for and love of liturgical music, and will oversee all aspects of liturgical music in the parish. The DMM will also direct the Schola Cantorum and the Hand Bell Choirs, as well as oversee and work closely with the other choir directors.    

Key responsibilities / day-to-day job functions

  • Develops liturgical music for all Masses, Holy Days, special liturgical celebrations, weddings, and funerals.
  • Provides training to parish musicians and the scheduling and hiring of other musicians, as needed.
  • Recruits cantors, substitute accompanists, and choir members.
  • Supervises the music library with the assistance of volunteers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum level of Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Music.
  • Minimum amount of Work Experience:
    • Years of related work experience: 3+ years
    • Area of related work experience: liturgical music, supervision, written/oral communication, Microsoft Office applications
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Faith, demonstrate a passion for and love of liturgical music Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
  • Must have musical proficiency in organ, piano, and voice, as well as a thorough knowledge of Church liturgical guidelines and norms.
  • Must flow easily between contemporary, praise and worship, traditional and age-appropriate music for children.  
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Supervises: Choir directors, cantors, musicians, and music library volunteers.
