The Payroll Specialist assists in the administration and processing of payroll for locations throughout the diocese. They provide customer service by following up on inquiries and concerns related to timesheet concerns, bank debits, payroll taxes, and vendor invoicing. This is a part-time (20 hours per week) position, reporting directly to the Payroll Manager.  Must be available four hours per day during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday. Remote/Hybrid environment. There may be some flexibility on days worked, depending on workload.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with processing payroll for approximately 74 locations, 2,800 employees on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Process payroll adjustments, including bonuses and stipends
  • Resolve discrepancies by analyzing and reviewing payroll registers for accuracy
  • Ensure that all records are captured accurately within the payroll software, UKG
  • Provide information and answer payroll related questions received from external parishes and schools, and diocesan parish accounting services
  • Oversee and answer concerns regarding bank debits related to payroll, payroll taxes, and vendor invoicing
  • Forward quarterly and annual reports (941’s) to diocesan parish accounting service and parish bookkeepers for their records
  • Ensure the current payroll is running smoothly as well as help with information needed from parishes.
  • Collect data and oversee timesheets approvals  
  • Provide excellent customers service in a timely manner to parishes, schools, and parish accounting services
  • Time management is important to perform all tasks and responsibilities by deadline
  • Serve as the back-up for payroll manager when on vacation or out of office
  • Assist payroll manager with special projects as needed and future implementation of new payroll system


  • Associate's Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required
  • 2-5 years of experience in working with Payroll Processing and support required
